Highly recommend the Riggs Hotel when traveling to Washington D.C. with kids. We have stayed here a few times now and love the architecture, the rooms, the location and the GIANT gumball machine just down the marble staircase in the lobby. There are often good off-season rates on Expedia if you can figure out when off-season is in D.C. It’s just across the street from the Portrait Gallery and an easy walk to the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History and the National Gallery… And a block away, on the second floor of the Martin Luther King Jr. Public Library, you’ll find a long wooden slide where you can definitely kill an hour before the museums open at ~10am. My daughter loved it. Careful though because it rips!
